Each degree in its own file… all tied to the same dispute

Murafe runs a civil case as a separate file for each litigation degree. The appeal or cassation is opened from the case file in one click, copying in the client, the opponents, the subject and the case team, and inside it the hearings, memoranda and applications are followed through to the judgment and the last day to appeal.

  • Court of First Instance – Civil Circuits
  • Appellate Circuits of the Court of First Instance
  • Court of Appeal
  • Court of Cassation

From opening the file to closing it

  1. Create the first-instance file

The client and their capacity, the opponents, the subject and matter type, the court, circuit, case number and year, and the date of entry.

  2. Assign responsibilities

The assignee responsible for the file and the case team with them, and the intake officer who received the client’s papers and logged them.

  3. Draft memoranda and file applications

Each memorandum has an assigned lawyer, a reviewer and a filing date; each application has a body, a number and a date until its decision.

  4. Record hearing decisions

What happened at the hearing, its status and what the next hearing requires; the next hearing is created automatically and the team is reminded.

  5. Record the judgment and review the date

The judgment’s type, outcome and operative part, and the last day to appeal, proposed from the settings and open to change.

  6. Open the next degree

From the case file, “Open appeal / cassation / execution” creates a new file linked to the original.

The file for civil cases, as it should be

  • Litigation degree

First instance, appeal or cassation: each degree has a separate file, linked to the files of the other degrees of the same dispute.

  • Linked cases

A counterclaim, a related or a joined case, or a petition for reconsideration, with the link shown in both files.

  • Memoranda

The memorandum’s type, the assigned lawyer, the reviewer and the filing date, and its status from drafting to “Filed”.

  • Applications

A petition for reconsideration, a precautionary attachment or a travel ban, with the body, number, date and decision.

  • Hearings and their decisions

The hearing’s date and type, the attending lawyer and what it requires, then the decision and the next hearing.

  • Case status

Under review, pending, reserved for judgment, judgment issued, stayed, struck off, closed, archived.

Dates the system watches

  • An alert to the responsible lawyer and the case team before every hearing
  • A memorandum’s filing date approaching, for the assigned lawyer and the reviewer
  • The last day to appeal by the judgment’s degree and the case type, from Settings → Appeal periods
  • Two alerts before the appeal deadline passes: seven days before, then two days before
  • An alert before the client’s power of attorney expires, and the number of the POA in force goes into the delegation letter
  • The client’s Qatar ID nearing expiry

The file’s papers

  • Statement of claim
  • Power of attorney
  • The client’s documents
  • The opponent’s documents
  • Expert’s report
  • Memoranda
  • Hearing minutes
  • Judgment

Uploaded to the case file and previewed inside the system; the office decides who can see them.

A file for each degree, and a thread that ties the degrees together

Case management in Murafe rests on a clear rule: each litigation degree is a separate file. First instance is a file, appeal is a file, cassation is a file, and all of them are linked to the same dispute. When the judgment is handed down, the lawyer chooses “Open appeal / cassation / execution” from the case file, then the new degree, the client’s capacity in it, the forum and the new case number, and the system creates the file and copies into it the client, the subject, the opponents and the case team. No one re-enters the parties at each stage, and the papers of one dispute are never scattered.

This separation shows in the figures, because each degree’s statistics stay accurate: they show the number of cases at each degree and status, and clicking any figure opens the list of matching files. Beside the relationship between degrees, an existing case can be linked to another through “Link to another case”, with the right type of link: counterclaim, related, joined, or petition for reconsideration. Whoever opens either file then sees that there is another file to read with it.

Memoranda and applications: written work with deadlines

Most of the work in a civil case is written, which is why a memorandum in Murafe goes through a clear cycle. It is created from the “Memoranda” tab of the case file with its type, such as a defence memorandum or a closing memorandum, and the lawyer assigned to draft it, the reviewer and the filing date are set. It starts as “Being drafted”, then “Under review”, then “Ready to file”, then “Filed” with the actual filing date. The assigned lawyer and the reviewer are alerted as the date approaches, and the final file is uploaded under the “Documents” tab.

Applications made to the court or to other bodies have a register of their own: a petition for reconsideration, a request for an order on petition, a stay of execution, a precautionary attachment, a travel ban, and the other types the office sets. Each application has its subject, the body it was submitted to, its number, its filing date and the person following it up, then the decision once issued (granted, partly granted or rejected), with its date and text. The number of memoranda being drafted appears on the dashboard, so the managing partner knows how much written work is outstanding.

From the hearing decision to the appeal deadline

After each hearing, the lawyer presses “Decision” and writes what happened, or picks a ready phrase such as “Adjourned for documents” or “Case reserved for judgment”, then sets the date of the next hearing and what it requires; the hearing is created automatically and the case team is reminded. The client can be told what happened by WhatsApp or email in the same step. When the case is reserved for judgment, its status is changed to “Reserved for judgment”, so it appears in the lists and statistics with the right status. The new hearing appears on its day’s roll, sorted by court and time, so following it up never depends on the memory of whoever attended.

When the judgment is handed down, its date, degree and type are recorded (definitive, preliminary, in absentia or summary), with its outcome, operative part and the amount awarded. The system proposes the last day to appeal from the date of the judgment and the appeal period for its degree and the case type, and the means of appeal and its period are shown beneath it. These periods are set by the office’s lawyers under Settings → Appeal periods, the date can be changed by hand, and legal responsibility for it lies with the office. When an appeal is lodged, “Judgment appealed” is ticked, or “Final / irrevocable judgment” once the judgment becomes final, and the alerts stop.

Questions about civil cases

A new file, linked to the original. From the case file, choose “Open appeal / cassation / execution”, and the system copies the client, the subject, the opponents and the case team, while each degree keeps its own hearings, judgments and accurate statistics.

Each memorandum has a filing date, an assigned lawyer and a reviewer, and both are alerted as the date approaches. The number of memoranda being drafted appears on the dashboard and in the statistics, and every memorandum can be followed with its status from the “Memoranda” page.

Yes, through “Link to another case” in the case file, choosing the type of link: counterclaim, related, joined, petition for reconsideration and others. The two files then show as linked.

The lawyer ticks “Judgment appealed” on appealing, and “Final / irrevocable judgment” when the judgment becomes final, and the alerts stop. Until then, the system alerts the responsible lawyer and the case team seven days and again two days before the deadline.

Yes. The application is recorded by choosing the client directly, without linking it to a case, then followed until the decision is issued and its text and date are recorded.
