Company cases in figures… from the commercial registration to the last instalment

For each client company, Murafe keeps a single file with its commercial registration number and its contact person, from which its cases before the Investment and Trade Court or the Qatar Financial Centre courts branch out, along with its legal services and fee agreements in instalments whose payments the accountant follows.

  • Investment and Trade Court
  • Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court (Qatar International Court)
  • Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Tribunal
  • Qatar Central Bank Disputes Settlement Committee
  • Qatar Financial Markets Authority Grievances Committee

From opening the file to closing it

  3. Open the case before the competent body

The Investment and Trade Court, the Qatar International Court or a specialised committee, with the circuit, case number and year, and the opponents.

  4. Follow memoranda and applications

The memorandum from drafting to review to filing, and the application, such as a precautionary attachment or a travel ban, until its decision.

  5. Record the judgment and the amount

What the court decided for or against the company, and the amount; the system proposes the last day to appeal for the lawyer to review.

  6. Collect and issue vouchers

A receipt voucher for a cheque or bank transfer, linked to the instalment, and a statement of account for the company for any period.

The client company: one file for many matters

When the client is a company, Murafe registers it with the type “Company / establishment”, its commercial registration number and its contact person, instead of the Qatar ID details asked of individuals. Cases and legal services are opened directly from its file, and the file shows its cases, agreements, powers of attorney, documents and financial balance on one page. So when the company’s finance director calls to ask about a dispute with a supplier or about the fee balance, the lawyer finds the answer without moving from folder to folder.

Many companies entrust the office with work that never reaches a court: drafting contracts, incorporating companies and registering trademarks, under the intellectual property group. These are recorded under “Legal services” with their type, the competent authority, the start date and the expected completion date, and followed until “Completed”; the fee, the amount paid and the balance of each service are shown to those with permission to see them. If the same company has been registered twice, the duplicate files screen detects it by name or by commercial registration number, and the duplicate is merged into the chosen record with everything that belongs to it.

Fees in instalments under an agreement with clear limits

Much of an office’s work with companies rests on a fee agreement paid in instalments. In Murafe, the agreement is written with the total fee, split into instalments with due dates, and linked to the cases or services it covers. When printed, it comes out in the office’s own wording from the “Fee agreement template”, and the “Scope of work” is written from the case details with a single button: its number, the court, the capacity, the opponent and the claims, with room for appeals the fee does not cover and for special terms. Both parties know the limits of the engagement from the start.

From then on, the accountant follows the “Fee instalments” page: overdue instalments, those due within 7 or 30 days, and all instalments with their statuses. On payment, a receipt voucher is issued for a cheque, with its number, date and bank, or for a bank transfer, with its reference number, and the amount is written out in words in Qatari riyals automatically. If the company’s accounts department asks for a statement of what it has paid, the statement of account is produced for any period: opening balance, transactions, closing balance and a summary of agreements. If the office allows it, the company’s representative sees all of this in the client portal.

The commercial and investment courts and the Qatar Financial Centre

The list of bodies in Murafe comes preset with their official names, among them the Investment and Trade Court, the Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court (Qatar International Court), the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Tribunal, and committees such as the Qatar Central Bank Disputes Settlement Committee. The case entry is completed with the circuit, the case number and year and the date of entry, and with its parties, whether companies or individuals, and their capacities. Beside the litigation degree in the file, the appeal period set for it is shown, because the system determines the case type from the court and the matter type.

When the judgment is handed down, its type, outcome, operative part and the amount awarded are recorded, and the system proposes the last day to appeal from Settings → Appeal periods. The values there are starting values that the office’s lawyers set as they judge best, and adopting the deadline, and legal responsibility for it, stay with the office. And because an office handling company cases in Doha needs legal software that gives it figures, not impressions, the “Statistics & reports” section shows the number of cases at each degree and status, for one lawyer or for the whole office, with export to Excel for the review meeting.

Questions about commercial and investment cases

Yes. The office chooses the client type: individual, company / establishment, or government entity. For a company, the commercial registration number and the contact person are recorded, and its file brings together its cases, services, agreements, powers of attorney and balance.

From “Fee agreements”, enter the total fee and split it into instalments with due dates, then link the agreement to the cases and services it covers. The “Fee instalments” page shows what is overdue and what falls due within 7 or 30 days, and the system sends the client reminders of instalments due, according to the settings.

From the list. It includes the Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court (Qatar International Court) and the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Tribunal alongside the Investment and Trade Court, under their official names. Any court or committee you do not find, the system administrator adds under Settings → Lists.

Yes. A fee agreement is linked to every case or service it covers, and if a case has more than one client, each has their own agreement. The system refuses to link a client to an agreement that is not theirs.

If the office allows it. Whoever holds the permission switches on the financial account in the “Client portal” section of the company’s file, and the client then sees the total fees, the expenses, the amount paid, the balance, the amount due now and the next instalment, as well as the statement of account and the receipt vouchers.
