The whole office in front of you… and the decision stays yours

A managing partner does not need to open every file, only to know what deserves their attention. In Murafe they see the deadlines to watch, the requests awaiting senior management’s approval, and the figures for cases, memoranda and collection; they decide with the system administrator who sees what in their office, and turn to the audit log whenever they need to know what happened.

What the managing partner sees on opening the system

Murafe — Managing partner

  • Deadlines to watch

Upcoming appeal deadlines and last days for grievances in the office’s cases, on the dashboard before time runs short.

  • Awaiting your action

Service and expense requests that have been through the finance department and await your approval, or your rejection with the reason given.

  • Memoranda being written

Their number on the dashboard; one click opens the list to show who is assigned to each memorandum and when it is due to be filed.

  • Files under study

Cases still “Under study”, so you know what is waiting for the office’s decision before it becomes a case before the court.

  • Overdue instalments

The number and amount of contract instalments past their due date, alongside the month’s income and expenses.

  • Alerts on your device

Alerts and chat messages on your computer or phone even when the system is closed, with the unread count in the tab title.

Six daily tasks… in one place

  1. Assigning new files

Sets “Assigned to” and the case team for every new case or service, and changes them if circumstances change, so the alerts reach whoever is actually handling the file.

  2. Approving requests

Approves a service or expense request as senior management, or rejects it with the reason, and sets the case team and the fee arrangement in a service request.

  3. Reading the figures

Picks the period and the lawyer in “Statistics and reports”, reads the cases by litigation degree and status, goes straight from any number to the cases behind it, then saves the report as a PDF for the partners’ meeting.

  4. Following collection

Reviews the “Financial summary”: income and expenses, office expenses shown separately, and instalments overdue or due within 30 days.

  5. Setting the limits of access

Decides with the system administrator who sees all cases, who sees fees and office expenses, and who gets an exception through a special permission.

  6. Checking the audit log

Finds out who changed a hearing date, cancelled a voucher or printed a statement of account, when, and from which device.

Example permissions for the managing partner

An example only: every office sets the permissions of each role for each section (view, add, edit, delete, print), and can grant them to a particular employee or withhold them.

Users and rolesLimitedCan view them in this example; the system administrator adds accounts and edits roles.

For the managing partner to work with less effort

  • Make assigning each new file a decision that never waits: hearing and deadline alerts go to the responsible lawyer and the case team, and a file with no assignee is nobody’s in particular.

  • Open the “Awaiting your action” tab in the morning and before the end of the day, so no payment or assignment is held up waiting for your decision, and always write the reason for a rejection so the person who made the request knows what they need.

  • Review the starting values in Settings → Appeal periods with the office’s lawyers when you begin and whenever the law changes: they are approximate values from which the system proposes deadlines, and responsibility for them lies with the office.

  • Print the “Received by and assigned to” report every month, to see how the work is spread in figures before an imbalance shows up in the deadlines.

Questions about the managing partner role

They see them if they are on the case team or have been given the “View confidential cases” permission. The managing partner’s default role includes this permission, and the office can change it as it wishes. It can also be withheld from a particular partner, or given to a particular lawyer, without changing their role.

Yes, if you have the “View audit log” permission. The log shows the action, the user’s name, the time and the device, and for edits it shows the old value and the new one. You can filter it by user, type of action and period to get quickly to what you are looking for.

Yes. Murafe runs in the phone’s browser and installs as an app with your office’s logo, and device notifications reach you, so you can approve a request or check the dashboard from anywhere. If you leave the device unused, the system closes your session after the period the office has set.

Yes. Financial viewing permissions are separate: receipt vouchers, payment vouchers, “View office expenses” and “View fees, paid and outstanding”. You give each role what suits it, and withhold from a particular employee what you do not want them to see.
